What should you know about reddish velvety rash under the foreskin?

Moisture, friction, soaps, lubricants, condoms, or other products can irritate sensitive skin. Intertrigo develops in warm, damp folds. Psoriasis or atopic dermatitis may affect genital skin with less obvious scale than elsewhere. Ringworm or another infection can cause redness and itch, while scabies usually brings intense itch and may affect other body areas. Symptoms such as discharge, odour, burning when urinating, sores, or partner symptoms change the assessment and may require infection testing.

Gently rinse with lukewarm water, dry by patting, and avoid fragranced products, vigorous rubbing, and sexual contact until the cause is clearer. Retract the foreskin only as far as comfortable and return it to its normal position; never force it. Do not use leftover antifungal, antibiotic, or steroid cream without clinical advice, because the wrong treatment can worsen irritation or obscure the diagnosis. A clinician can inspect the skin and arrange swabs or urine testing when indicated.

Seek urgent care if the foreskin becomes trapped behind the glans, the penis swells severely, urination is difficult, or pain is intense. Prompt assessment is needed for fever, spreading redness, pus, ulcers, blisters, or a rash that does not settle after removing an obvious irritant.
