What should you know about red spots on skin heat rash?

Heat Rash, also called prickly heat, commonly appears where sweat collects or clothing rubs: the neck, chest, back, groin, or skin folds. The spots may itch, sting, or feel prickly, and they can be flat or slightly raised. Babies and adults can develop it after hot weather, exercise, fever, or prolonged sweating. Skin redness and skin bumps have several possible causes, so a rash that does not behave like a heat-related eruption should be assessed.

Move into a cool space, loosen clothing, and let the skin dry. Wash gently with cool or lukewarm water, pat dry, and use breathable fabrics. Avoid thick ointments, fragranced products, and vigorous rubbing because they can trap heat or irritate blocked ducts. A clinician may recommend Emollient Therapy for selected dry or irritated skin, or Topical Corticosteroids for inflammation when appropriate; do not self-treat an undiagnosed rash for an extended period.

Get medical advice if the rash spreads, becomes painful, produces pus, persists despite cooling, or keeps returning. Prompt help is needed for fever, marked swelling, rapidly increasing tenderness, or a child who seems unusually sleepy or unwell. Emergency care is appropriate for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, faintness, or a rapidly widespread rash.
