Red spot on face that will not go away

Short-lived flushing often follows heat, exercise, emotion, or a product and then settles. A fixed spot can instead reflect ongoing irritation, rosacea, a blocked or inflamed follicle, a visible blood vessel, or a lesion that needs closer assessment. Colour alone is not diagnostic. Texture, symptoms, borders, and whether the area is enlarging give a clinician more useful information.

Use a gentle cleanser and bland moisturiser, and stop any new cosmetic or active skin-care product on the area. Protect your face from direct sun with shade, a hat, and sunscreen on intact skin. Do not squeeze, scrape, or repeatedly treat the mark with home acids. Take a clear dated photograph and arrange a medical review if it remains present or keeps recurring.

Arrange care promptly if the spot develops scale, a persistent scab, an open sore, bleeding, tenderness, numbness, or a firm centre. Seek urgent attention for rapidly spreading redness with warmth, marked swelling, fever, or eye symptoms. A clinician may diagnose it by examination and may suggest a sample or targeted treatment when needed.
