Red, smelly rash under belly fat

Intertrigo is inflammation where skin rubs together and stays damp. Odour, tenderness, weeping, cracks, or small surrounding spots can suggest infection, but they do not identify the cause by themselves. Contact dermatitis may follow a new soap, detergent, fabric, or product. Heat rash can affect sweaty areas. Ringworm may form a scaly edge, while psoriasis can affect folds with a smooth red appearance. Atopic dermatitis and scabies have different patterns and symptoms, so the rest of the skin matters.

Rinse gently, pat the fold completely dry, and wear loose breathable clothing. Change damp clothing promptly and avoid rubbing, fragranced products, and occlusive creams unless advised. Do not share towels. A clinician can examine the fold and decide whether an antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, or other treatment is appropriate; using the wrong cream can mask or aggravate some rashes.

Seek same-day care if redness is rapidly expanding, pain is severe, the skin is hot or swollen, pus or darkening develops, or fever, chills, dizziness, or weakness occurs. Arrange a prompt review if the odour and rash do not improve with gentle drying, or if diabetes, immune suppression, or repeated episodes makes infection more concerning.
