Red rash under breast: what should you know?

A moist fold can become tender, itchy, shiny, cracked, or sore. Intertrigo is inflammation in a skin fold and may be worsened by sweat and rubbing. Contact Dermatitis can follow a new bra fabric, laundry product, body wash, or cream. Heat Rash may appear after hot weather or exercise. Ringworm can have a scaly edge and may spread beyond the fold. Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis may cause recurring patches elsewhere too. Appearance alone cannot reliably separate irritation from infection.

Rinse gently, pat the fold completely dry, and change damp clothing or bras promptly. Choose breathable, well-fitting fabric and reduce rubbing. Stop newly added fragranced products on the area. Avoid scratching and do not apply household remedies, strong antiseptics, or leftover prescription creams. Get prompt care for rapidly increasing redness, warmth, swelling, severe pain, pus, an open wound, or fever.
