What should you know about red blotchy rash on palms of hands?

Palms are exposed to frequent washing, sanitisers, detergents, gloves, tools, and chemicals. Burning, cracking, or sharply outlined redness after contact can point toward Contact Dermatitis. Thick scale or fissures may occur with Psoriasis or hand eczema. A rash with intense itch, especially at night or in household contacts, raises the possibility of Scabies. Spots elsewhere, mouth changes, fever, or a recent medicine can change the urgency and possible explanation. A clinician may need to inspect both hands and the nails.

Wash with a mild fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water, then pat dry and apply a plain moisturiser while the skin is slightly damp. Wear protective gloves for wet work, using a breathable layer underneath if sweating worsens the rash. Avoid new products and do not peel loose skin or puncture blisters. Photograph changes and list workplace exposures, hobbies, medicines, and whether the feet or other household members are affected.

Get urgent help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, faintness, rapidly spreading blistering, skin peeling, severe pain, purple spots, or sores in the mouth or eyes. Seek prompt assessment for fever, pus, increasing warmth, swelling, or red streaks, which can signal infection. Arrange a dermatology review when palm changes persist, repeatedly crack, interfere with work, or do not improve after removing an obvious irritant.
