Razor bumps on the pubic area in females

Ingrown hairs commonly present as razor bumps when a newly cut hair grows sideways or curls into the skin. Tight underwear, heat, sweat and repeated shaving can add friction. Folliculitis may cause clusters of inflamed spots around follicles. Bumps with blisters, open sores, marked swelling or discharge may have another cause and should not be self-diagnosed.

Pause shaving, waxing and plucking until the irritation has settled. Rinse gently, avoid perfumed products on the area, and use a warm compress for comfort. Loose cotton underwear can reduce rubbing; change after exercise or swimming. Do not squeeze, scratch or lance a bump. If you shave later, soften the hair first, use gel and a clean razor, make one light pass with hair growth, and avoid shaving very close. Seek care if redness spreads, pain increases, the skin feels hot, pus collects, or fever appears.
