What should you know about rat fever symptoms?

Some people feel hot, while others mainly notice chills or shivering. Headache, muscle aches, tiredness, sweating, poor appetite, and thirst can occur. Cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhoea, painful urination, or a rash may point toward the body system involved, but symptoms overlap between illnesses. A fever can also follow heat exposure or a medicine reaction.

The symptom pattern and its timing are more useful than fever alone. Tell a clinician about recent travel, sick contacts, animal or insect exposure, new medicines, pregnancy, and long-term conditions.

Rest and take frequent drinks; water or an oral rehydration drink can help when sweating, vomiting, or diarrhoea is present. Use a thermometer and write down readings, symptoms, and medicines. Wear comfortable light clothing and keep the room suitably cool. Use fever medicine only as directed and check combination cold remedies for duplicate ingredients.

Avoid strenuous activity and close contact while unwell. Do not rely on how warm your skin feels alone, because fever and overheating can feel different.

Get urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, blue or grey lips, confusion, unusual drowsiness, fainting, a seizure, a stiff neck, severe headache, a rapidly spreading rash, or inability to keep fluids down. Seek prompt advice if symptoms are worsening, fever keeps returning, or the person is an infant, pregnant, elderly, or immunocompromised.
