Rash Under Nose Treatment: What to Know

Frequent wiping from a runny nose can damage the skin barrier and leave soreness, redness, or scaling. Moisture and friction may also cause irritation in the crease beside the nostril. A rash can be a presentation of Contact Dermatitis when a product, tissue, adhesive, or cosmetic triggers inflammation. Atopic Dermatitis can cause itchy, dry skin, while Ringworm may form a spreading, scaly edge. Crusting, oozing, or increasing tenderness can signal infection and needs an examination rather than trial-and-error treatment.

Rinse with lukewarm water or a fragrance-free cleanser, then pat dry. Use a plain, fragrance-free moisturizer around—but not inside—the nostril, especially after blowing your nose. Choose soft tissues, dab instead of rubbing, and pause new skincare, fragranced creams, and makeup on the area. Do not pick crusts or apply steroid, antibiotic, or antifungal cream inside the nose unless a clinician directs you. If the rash persists, spreads, recurs, or has a clear scale or crust, arrange a clinical review so treatment matches the cause.

Seek prompt medical care for rapidly spreading redness, marked swelling, warmth, pus, fever, severe pain, or redness moving toward the eye. Get urgent help for facial swelling with trouble breathing or swallowing. Arrange a routine appointment if the rash does not settle after removing likely irritants, repeatedly returns, or affects the nostril or upper lip.
