Rash Under Chin and Jawline: What You Should Know

Sweat, saliva, mask contact, a collar or repeated touching can keep this area irritated. Shaving may cause tiny cuts, razor irritation or inflamed follicles. Contact Dermatitis may follow fragrance, beard products, cosmetics, toothpaste residue or detergent. Atopic Dermatitis may cause dry itch and scaling. Heat Rash can produce small prickly bumps, while Ringworm may form a scaly border that expands. Scabies can cause intense itching and may affect household contacts, but the rash location alone cannot establish that diagnosis.

Clean gently with lukewarm water, rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Pause newly introduced skincare, fragrance, shaving products and makeup until the pattern is clearer. Use a clean razor, avoid shaving over broken skin and do not pick bumps. Keep mask fabric and pillowcases clean, and change damp clothing. Avoid applying steroid, antibiotic or antifungal products without suitable advice, since treatment depends on the cause and some products can worsen infection or irritation.

Seek prompt care if swelling is rapidly increasing, the skin is hot and painful, redness spreads, or there is pus, crusting, blistering or fever. Get urgent help for swelling of the lips or tongue, breathing difficulty or a rapidly widespread rash. Arrange review when symptoms follow a new medicine, keep recurring, involve the eyes or mouth, or do not improve after removing likely irritants.
