Rash on skin that is not itchy: what should you know?

Why itch may be absent
Some rashes mainly change colour or texture without itch. Dry plaques can occur with psoriasis; irritation may feel sore or warm; and a drug eruption can appear after a new medicine. A flat red or purple rash that does not fade when pressed, especially with fever or feeling unwell, needs prompt evaluation. A ring-shaped scaly patch can fit ringworm even when itching is limited.

Use gentle cleanser and moisturiser, avoid new fragranced products, and do not pick or scrub. Do not stop prescribed medicine without advice, but list recent medicines and supplements. Take dated photographs and note fever, pain, tenderness, bruising, mouth sores, or urine changes.
When to seek care
Seek urgent care for a non-blanching rash with fever, confusion, severe headache, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, skin peeling, or sores in the mouth or eyes. Arrange review if it spreads, becomes painful, follows a new medicine, or remains unexplained.
