Rash on skin after shaving: what should you know?

Redness or small bumps can follow a close shave because the blade disturbs skin and hair follicles. Burning soon after shaving gel may reflect irritation or contact dermatitis. Tender bumps around hairs can occur with ingrown hairs or follicle inflammation. A spreading scaly border may point toward another condition.

Stop shaving until the area settles. Rinse gently, pat dry, and use a fragrance-free moisturiser or cool compress if comfortable. Do not squeeze bumps, share razors, or apply strong antiseptics. When shaving again, use a clean razor, soften hair with warm water, follow hair growth, and avoid repeated passes.

Arrange prompt care for increasing warmth, swelling, pain, pus, fever, red streaking, or spreading redness. Seek urgent help for facial swelling with breathing trouble or swelling around the eye. Recurring reactions may need review of products, technique, or hair-removal options.
