What should you know about rash on face and eyes swollen?

A sudden itchy rash with puffiness can follow food, medicine, cosmetics, hair products, or an insect bite. Irritant or allergic contact dermatitis may affect the face and eyelids together. Atopic dermatitis can cause recurring dry, itchy inflammation. Pain, warmth, fever, pus, or one-sided swelling raises concern for infection and needs examination. The combination does not identify one cause, so note what happened just before the symptoms and whether the eye itself feels affected.

Stop any newly used product, avoid rubbing, and gently rinse exposed skin with clean lukewarm water. Remove contact lenses and eye makeup. A cool compress may ease puffiness while you arrange advice. Do not apply facial or steroid creams near the eyes unless prescribed for that area. If a medicine may be involved, seek advice before making changes to a regular prescription. Call emergency services immediately for trouble breathing, throat tightness, faintness, or swelling of the lips, tongue, or mouth. Seek urgent eye assessment for vision change, severe eye pain, pain when moving the eye, inability to open it, or rapidly increasing swelling. Same-day care is appropriate for fever, marked tenderness, warmth, pus, or redness spreading around the eye.

Ask whether this is most consistent with an allergic or irritant reaction, what exposures should be avoided, whether the eye surface is involved, and which treatment is safe near the eyes.
