Rash on arms and torso that is not itchy

Flat pink or red areas may follow irritation, heat, or a reaction to a new medicine. Scaly patches can occur with psoriasis or dermatitis. Ring-shaped marks may suggest Ringworm, while spots that cluster in warm, damp folds may fit Intertrigo. A rash can also be part of Atopic Dermatitis or Contact Dermatitis even when itching is mild or absent. These appearances overlap, so a photograph and an examination are more useful than colour alone.

Note when it began, whether it is spreading, and whether the skin is raised, scaly, bruised-looking, blistered, or warm. Record new medicines, supplements, detergents, cosmetics, plants, travel, heat exposure, and contact with someone who has a rash.

Wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and use a plain fragrance-free moisturiser. Wear loose clothing, keep overheated skin cool, and avoid scrubbing, exfoliating acids, fragranced products, and unprescribed steroid or antifungal creams until the pattern is clearer. Take a dated photograph in the same light and mark changes in spread or texture. A pharmacist or clinician can help decide whether a skin examination or medicine review is needed.

Get urgent help for trouble breathing, swelling of the lips or face, faintness, rapidly blistering or peeling skin, purple spots that do not fade when pressed, severe pain, or a rash involving the eyes or mouth. Arrange prompt medical assessment if fever, marked illness, pus, warmth, tenderness, or fast spread develops. A persistent or recurring rash deserves a routine dermatology review, even without itch.
