Professional chemical peel

Peels vary by ingredient, concentration, contact time, and depth. A clinician may consider them for selected acne or comedonal acne, uneven texture, keratosis pilaris, melasma, sun spots, or sun-damaged skin. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a particular concern for some skin tones, so the plan should account for pigment risk rather than treating colour as a simple surface problem.

Tell the clinician about active eczema, infection, cold sores, recent tanning, pregnancy or breastfeeding, medicines, and previous pigment changes. Follow any pre-treatment plan exactly and arrive without irritating products on the area. Afterward, use the recommended bland cleanser and moisturiser, avoid picking or peeling flakes, and protect the skin from ultraviolet exposure. Do not restart retinoids, scrubs, or other acids until the clinician says the barrier has recovered. Glycolic acid is one possible peel material, but the ingredient alone does not determine the treatment's strength.

Contact the clinic for increasing pain, swelling, blistering, pus, spreading redness, or a dark or light patch that is worsening. Seek urgent care for eye involvement, facial swelling with breathing difficulty, or severe illness. Keep the treatment area clean and avoid applying more active products while a complication is being assessed.
