What should you know about prickly heat all over the body?

Short answer
Prickly heat all over the body can follow widespread sweating and heat exposure, but a rash across many areas should be checked if it is severe, unusual, or persistent.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

- Distribution
- Heat rash may affect sweaty, covered, or folded areas across the trunk and neck.
- Clue
- Heat-related prickling often worsens with continued sweating.
- Safety
- Widespread rash with fever, breathing symptoms, or facial swelling needs urgent attention.
Why the rash may spread
When the body stays hot and sweat cannot evaporate, irritation can affect the trunk, neck, folds, and areas covered by clothing. Tiny prickling bumps, redness, stinging, and itch may become more noticeable after activity or in humid surroundings. Cooling often reduces the discomfort.
A widespread rash is not automatically heat rash. Allergy, infection, medication reactions, and other inflammatory conditions can also cause broad skin changes. Note the onset, recent products or medicines, fever, pain, blisters, and whether the rash fades when the skin cools.
What you can do today
Rest in a cool space, loosen or remove sweat-soaked clothing, and use gentle airflow. Wash with cool or lukewarm water, pat dry, and wear light breathable layers. Avoid scratching, hot showers, perfumed products, thick ointments, and strenuous activity until the skin settles.
Drink fluids according to your usual medical advice and monitor the rash. Do not apply a steroid cream over a large area or broken skin without professional guidance; the correct treatment depends on the cause and body location.
When widespread symptoms need help
Arrange prompt medical review if the eruption is spreading despite cooling, lasts beyond a short period, becomes painful, forms blisters or pus, or comes with fever. Emergency care is needed for breathing difficulty, facial or tongue swelling, faintness, confusion, severe weakness, or a rapidly worsening rash.

Questions people ask
Can heat rash cover the whole body?
It can affect broad areas when heat and sweating are widespread, but a full-body rash also has other possible causes and may need assessment.
Should I use a thick moisturiser on widespread prickly heat?
Usually avoid heavy occlusive products during active sweating unless a clinician recommends them, because they can hold heat and moisture against the skin.
