Pregnancy-safe antibiotics for a UTI

A urine infection during pregnancy may cause burning when urinating, urgency, frequent urination, or lower abdominal discomfort, though symptoms can be subtle. A urine sample helps identify bacteria and whether the selected medicine is likely to work. The prescriber also checks allergies, kidney function, previous results, and other medicines.

Do not use leftover antibiotics or someone else’s prescription. Antibiotics are designed for bacterial infections and will not treat every cause of urinary discomfort. Medicines can also affect pregnancy differently, so the name and timing should come from your clinician.

These features can occur when an infection has moved beyond the bladder. Get emergency help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or widespread hives after an antibiotic.
