What should you know about pre-heat stroke symptoms?

Heat stroke can develop when the body cannot release heat effectively. Warning features may include a very hot body, headache, dizziness, weakness, nausea, confusion, unusual behaviour, seizure, or loss of consciousness. Sweating may be present or absent, so a dry skin check does not rule it out. Heat Exhaustion can cause heavy sweating, weakness, thirst, and nausea, but heat stroke is more dangerous when mental function changes or the person collapses.

Call emergency services, move the person into shade or a cool room, remove excess clothing, and cool the skin with wet cloths, water, and airflow. Stay with them and monitor breathing. Do not give drinks to someone who is confused, vomiting, having a seizure, or not fully awake. Do not delay help while trying home remedies. Hospital treatment may include IV Fluid Therapy.

Emergency assessment is needed for confusion, fainting, seizure, severe weakness, trouble breathing, or a person who remains hot and unwell after cooling begins. Fever and Vomiting can occur with many illnesses, but in a hot environment they should be considered alongside the person's alertness, skin, and fluid intake. Do not drive an unconscious or confused person yourself.
