What should you know about plaster of paris outdoor use?

Plaster of Paris sets after mixing with water, but a hardened surface can still be affected by rain, damp ground, repeated wetting, and temperature changes. Outdoor use therefore needs a dry period for setting and a suitable protective finish or enclosure. The product instructions should guide surface preparation, mixing, thickness, curing, and whether the product is intended for exterior work.

A wall repair and a medical cast are separate applications. An orthopaedic cast is moulded over padding around a body part and must be kept dry. Weather exposure can soften or damage its surface and may affect the support beneath it.

Check the label before using plaster outdoors, cover the work if rain is possible, and keep the powder sealed and dry. Prepare a stable, clean surface and use protective gloves and eye protection while mixing. Do not rely on ordinary Plaster of Paris for a location that will remain wet or exposed unless the product guidance supports that use.
