The German word deutsch may appear in a search phrase, but the medical condition is tinea versicolor, also called pityriasis versicolor. It is a superficial yeast-related eruption that can create lighter, darker, pink, or tan patches with delicate scale. The trunk, neck, and upper arms are frequent sites, especially where heat and sweat collect. It is not the same as a deep skin infection, and it may cause little or no itching. A careful examination helps separate it from other causes of a skin rash or white patches.
