Pityriasis lichenoides chronica and food allergy

Pityriasis lichenoides chronica usually causes repeated small, scaly or crusted spots that may leave darker or lighter marks as they heal. Its pattern can resemble other inflammatory or infectious rashes. Food Allergy more often causes symptoms soon after eating, such as hives, swelling, vomiting, wheeze or an Itchy Throat. A delayed rash pattern does not prove that a particular food is responsible. A dermatologist or allergy clinician can consider the timing, appearance, examination findings and any other symptoms.

Photograph the rash in consistent light and record new foods, medicines, skin products and symptoms without making broad food exclusions on your own. Arrange an appointment for a diagnosis if spots persist, recur, crust or change. The clinician may recommend skin care, treatment for inflammation or a targeted Allergy Testing plan when the history supports it. Do not deliberately reintroduce a suspected food if a previous reaction involved breathing problems, collapse or swelling.

Call emergency services for sudden throat or tongue swelling, trouble breathing, wheezing, faintness or widespread hives after eating; these can be signs of Anaphylaxis. Use a prescribed emergency treatment plan immediately if one exists. A persistent skin rash without these features still needs a planned clinical review rather than emergency allergy treatment.
