Pictures of spotting during pregnancy 1st trimester

During the first trimester, spotting can be light and brief or may continue and change colour. The cervix can bleed more easily, and infection or irritation may contribute. Bleeding can also occur with conditions affecting the pregnancy, so the same-looking mark can have very different explanations.

A picture does not distinguish pregnancy-related bleeding from [Chlamydia](/conditions/chlamydia/) or cervical changes such as [Cervical Dysplasia](/conditions/cervical-dysplasia/). Those links describe possible causes of bleeding in other contexts; they do not diagnose what your image represents.

Call your maternity clinician or early-pregnancy service and share the pregnancy dates, bleeding colour, amount and duration. Mention cramps, one-sided pain, dizziness, fever or discharge. A pad can help you observe the amount; do not use tampons or put anything in the vagina while waiting for advice. Keep any image private and use it only with a trusted healthcare service.

Go to emergency care for heavy or worsening bleeding, severe or one-sided pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, significant dizziness, fever or collapse. Early pregnancy symptoms can change quickly, and urgent assessment may include examination, blood tests or ultrasound. Do not rely on a picture to decide whether urgent care is needed.

Ask: What assessment is appropriate at this stage? Could my symptoms suggest a pregnancy outside the uterus? When should I repeat contact if spotting continues? What activity and pain-relief advice applies to me?
