Picosecond laser benefits: what to know

The device uses brief pulses that target pigment or create a controlled stimulus in the skin. A clinician may consider it for certain unwanted marks, tattoo pigment or uneven texture, but not every dark spot is suitable for laser. A changing mole, infection or an inflammatory rash needs assessment rather than cosmetic treatment. Improvement may be gradual, and a treatment plan can involve more than one visit. Temporary redness, swelling, sensitivity or pigment shifts are possible.

Ask for the diagnosis and the specific benefit expected for your area. Share your natural skin tone, tendency to darken after irritation, history of cold sores or raised scars, current medicines and recent tanning. Avoid treating sun-exposed or irritated skin until advised. Follow the clinic’s cooling, cleansing and sun-protection instructions afterwards, and do not pick crusts or add strong acids and retinoids while the skin is vulnerable.

Ask the clinic to review increasing pain, expanding redness, pus, extensive blistering or a wound that is not settling. Get urgent help if swelling interferes with breathing or eyesight, or if you develop widespread hives with facial or throat swelling.
