Picosecond laser before and after: what to expect

A consultation checks your skin tone, recent tanning, medicines, active irritation and the reason for treatment. The laser delivers very short pulses to a selected area. Immediately afterwards, treated skin may feel warm or look pink. Pigmented spots can appear darker or develop a fine crust before gradually shedding. Results are gradual and depend on the concern, settings and how your skin responds; one visit cannot predict the final appearance.

Tell the clinician about cold sores, previous pigment changes, keloid scarring, pregnancy, medicines and recent sun exposure. Arrive with clean skin and follow instructions about products that can irritate. Afterwards, keep the area gently cleansed, avoid picking or rubbing, use the recommended dressing or moisturiser, and protect it from sunlight with clothing and broad-spectrum sunscreen. Pause strenuous heat exposure or harsh exfoliants until the surface has recovered.

Contact the treating clinic if pain is worsening rather than easing, blisters spread, swelling is marked, pus develops, or the area becomes increasingly hot and tender. Seek urgent care for facial swelling affecting breathing or vision, widespread blistering, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
