Pico laser resurfacing: what to know

Pico resurfacing is a laser approach that can create a controlled effect in the skin without the same treatment pattern as ablative CO2 resurfacing. The clinician chooses the device, handpiece, and settings according to texture, pores, fine lines, tone, and the condition of your skin. It may be considered for sun-damaged skin, but it cannot reverse every sign of photoaging. Compared with a deeper procedure, the visible recovery may be different, yet redness, swelling, dryness, and temporary pigment change can still occur.

Discuss active acne, eczema, infection, cold sores, recent tanning, medicines, and a tendency to form raised scars. Stop or continue products only as your clinician directs. Protect the area from sunlight before treatment. Afterward, cleanse gently, moisturise, avoid picking, and use the recommended sun protection. Do not combine it with a Chemical Peel or another resurfacing procedure unless the clinician has planned the timing. Ask whether fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing, CO2 Laser, or Thulium Laser is more appropriate for your goal.

Contact the clinic if pain, swelling, or redness becomes more intense, if blisters or pus appear, or if the treated area is increasingly warm. Urgent help is needed for swelling that affects breathing or vision. A persistent or unexpected colour change also deserves a review, especially if it is spreading.

Ask what feature is being treated, how deep the treatment will be, what recovery looks like, which products to pause, and how your existing sun damage or pigment history affects the plan.
