The clinician cleans the skin and spreads a carbon-based lotion over the chosen area. After it sits on the skin, a laser passes over the coating. The carbon absorbs the laser energy, helping lift surface oil and debris as it is removed. The procedure may be marketed as a Hollywood peel, but that name does not define one standard protocol.

Temporary warmth, redness, tightness, or mild sensitivity can follow. It is often used when someone wants a refreshed surface appearance, but it is not a substitute for diagnosing acne, pigmentation, infection, or a changing lesion. The laser type and settings should be confirmed before treatment.

Tell the clinic about eczema, acne flares, open skin, cold sores, recent tanning, allergies, and products that have irritated you. Attend with clean skin if instructed, and avoid applying unapproved creams immediately beforehand.
