What should you know about photo sensitive eyes?

Short answer
Photo-sensitive eyes may reflect irritation, dryness, migraine, medication effects, or an eye condition, so persistent or sudden light sensitivity deserves assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What light sensitivity can mean
Photophobia is discomfort or pain triggered by light. It can occur with dry or irritated eyes, inflammation, a migraine episode, an abrasion, or infection. Some medicines can also increase sensitivity. Skin conditions such as Rosacea, Atopic Dermatitis, or Perioral Dermatitis may coexist with facial sensitivity, but eye discomfort should not be attributed to skin alone.
Steps that may help
Reduce glare with a hat, shaded surroundings, or comfortable sunglasses outdoors, and take breaks from bright screens. Do not rub your eyes or use someone else’s eye drops. Note when symptoms began, whether one or both eyes are affected, and whether headache, redness, discharge, blurred vision, or a recent contact-lens change is present. An eye clinician can decide whether lubrication, treatment for inflammation, or another evaluation is appropriate.
When to seek care
Arrange prompt medical care for new or worsening light sensitivity with eye pain, marked redness, vision change, discharge, injury, or difficulty opening the eye. Seek urgent help if symptoms begin suddenly with severe headache, nausea, weakness, confusion, or sudden loss of vision. Mild sensitivity that settles may still merit a routine review when it keeps returning.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether dryness, inflammation, migraine, medicines, or contact lenses could explain the pattern; whether an eye examination is needed; and which drops or protective measures are suitable for you.

Questions people ask
Can screen light cause sensitive eyes?
Screens can worsen discomfort through glare, reduced blinking, or dryness, but ongoing or painful sensitivity should be assessed.
Should I wear sunglasses indoors?
Use them temporarily for severe glare if advised, but constant dark glasses can make ordinary light harder to tolerate for some people.
