Short answer

A Perfect Image glycolic peel is a controlled chemical exfoliation that uses glycolic acid to loosen surface skin cells.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the peel does

Glycolic acid is a water-soluble exfoliating ingredient that can reduce the buildup of surface cells. A professional peel may be considered for uneven texture, dullness, some acne-related congestion, or uneven pigmentation. It does not remove deep scars or diagnose a changing mole. The strength, contact time, number of layers, and neutralisation method affect how the skin responds. Stinging, warmth, tightness, redness, and peeling can occur after treatment; darker skin tones can be more vulnerable to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if inflammation is excessive.

Preparing and caring for skin

Tell the practitioner about retinoids, exfoliating products, recent waxing, cold sores, eczema, active infection, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and a history of pigmentation changes. Do not apply a peel at home unless the product and instructions specifically support that use. After treatment, use gentle cleanser, bland moisturiser, and broad-spectrum sun protection; do not pick peeling skin or combine several irritating actives. A clinician may consider it alongside care for Acne, Comedonal Acne, Keratosis Pilaris, Melasma, Sun-Damaged Skin, Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation, or Sun Spots, but the underlying condition still needs its own plan.

When to seek help

Contact the clinic if burning, swelling, blistering, crusting, or pain is severe or continues to worsen. Seek urgent care for facial swelling with breathing difficulty, widespread hives, eye exposure, or sudden vision symptoms. New darkening that persists after the expected healing period should be assessed so further irritation can be avoided.

Questions for your doctor

What skin concern is this peel intended to address? Which concentration and contact time are planned? Should I stop any products beforehand? How will you reduce pigment-change risk for my skin tone, and what is the aftercare schedule?

Questions people ask

Will a glycolic peel remove acne scars?

It may help surface texture or congestion, but deeper scars often need a different treatment plan.

Can I peel flaky skin after treatment?

No. Pulling or scrubbing can increase irritation and pigment change; let the skin shed naturally.
