PCA3 is measured in urine after the prostate has been stimulated during a clinical examination. The laboratory looks for prostate-related genetic material. Your clinician may consider this test when a PSA result or earlier biopsy leaves uncertainty about whether more assessment is needed.

The result is not a stand-alone answer. It is considered with PSA changes, prostate size, examination findings, symptoms, family history, and previous test results. A higher or lower result may influence the conversation, but it cannot confirm or rule out cancer by itself.
