Partial molar pregnancy genetics

A partial mole commonly forms when an egg is fertilised in a way that gives the pregnancy three chromosome sets rather than the usual two. The additional set is generally paternal. This pattern affects placental development and prevents normal fetal development. It is usually a chance event and is not caused by exercise, stress, or something you did. Pathology, chromosome testing, or imprinting tests may distinguish a partial mole from other abnormal pregnancies.

Ask whether the tissue was tested and which result was found. Keep hormone-monitoring visits even when you feel well, and ask when another pregnancy is medically reasonable.
