What should you know about pantangan keratosis pilaris?

Keratosis pilaris, sometimes called chicken skin, develops when keratin collects around hair follicles. The skin may feel sandpapery and can look flesh-coloured, pink, or darker than surrounding skin. It is common on the upper arms and thighs, but the cheeks and buttocks can also be involved. It is not caused by poor hygiene or contagious infection. A flare can become more noticeable with dry air, friction, shaving, or picking.

Use a mild cleanser, short lukewarm showers, and a fragrance-free moisturiser soon after bathing. An emollient containing ingredients that soften scale may improve texture when used consistently. A clinician may recommend a topical retinoid or another keratin-reducing product, introduced gradually to limit irritation. Avoid harsh scrubs, squeezing, rough gloves, and repeated shaving over inflamed bumps. Chemical Peel or Laser Hair Removal may be considered for selected concerns, but they do not suit every skin tone or active irritation.

Arrange a dermatology review if bumps are painful, pus-filled, intensely itchy, suddenly spreading, or leaving persistent dark marks or scars. Seek advice when home care has not helped and you are unsure whether the lesions are keratosis pilaris, folliculitis, or ingrown hairs. Urgent care is appropriate for rapidly spreading redness with fever or marked tenderness.
