Pain in the inner thigh near the groin in women: what to know

The adductor muscles run along the inner thigh and help draw the leg inward. A new workout, sudden step, or overstretch can irritate them. Pain that feels deep in the groin and changes with sitting, squatting, or hip rotation may be related to Hip Impingement, a Hip Labral Tear, or Hip Osteoarthritis. These conditions can present with groin or inner-thigh pain; the symptom itself does not establish the diagnosis.

Because pelvic and reproductive problems can also cause pain in this region, tell a clinician about cycle-related timing, pregnancy possibility, bleeding, discharge, urinary symptoms, fever, nausea, or a new lump. This context is especially important when the pain is not linked to movement.

Reduce running, jumping, deep lunges, and wide-leg movements if they reproduce the pain. Keep gentle walking within comfort and avoid forceful inner-thigh stretching during a recent flare. Arrange medical review if pain persists, returns with ordinary activity, or affects walking, sleep, or daily tasks. Seek urgent care for severe or rapidly worsening pain, faintness, fever, repeated vomiting, heavy bleeding, a painful new lump, or possible pregnancy with one-sided pelvic pain or bleeding. After an injury, prompt assessment is needed if you cannot bear weight or the leg looks abnormal.

Ask whether the pattern fits an adductor or hip problem, whether a pelvic assessment or imaging is needed, and which activities are safe. Mention pregnancy possibility and any cycle, urinary, bowel, or reproductive symptoms so the evaluation covers relevant causes.
