What should you know about oxiline pulse oximeter?

The device clips onto a fingertip and uses light to estimate how much oxygen is carried in the blood. It also displays a pulse rate. The number can be affected by cold fingers, movement, nail products, poor circulation, or an imperfect fit, so one unstable reading may not reflect your condition.

A pulse oximeter does not measure breathing effort, carbon dioxide, infection, or the cause of a symptom. A normal-looking result does not rule out serious illness when someone is struggling to breathe, confused, faint, or developing blue lips.

Rest quietly, warm your hand, remove artificial nail coverings if practical, and keep the finger still. Wait for the display to settle, then record the reading with the time and your symptoms. Repeat if the result seems unexpected. Use the device according to its instructions and arrange a GP consultation if readings remain concerning or symptoms continue.

Get emergency help for severe breathlessness, chest pain, fainting, new confusion, or blue or grey lips. Do not delay urgent assessment while trying to improve a device reading. For less urgent concerns, contact a clinician when breathlessness, fever, or worsening cough persists.
