Several skin problems can look similar, and some human products may irritate or harm a cat if licked.

Ringworm is a fungal infection, not a worm. Cats may develop round areas of hair loss, broken hairs, crusting, scaling, or itching, although appearance alone cannot confirm it. Infection can pass through contact with an affected animal, contaminated hair, bedding, brushes, or surfaces. People and other pets may need assessment if they develop a new rash or scaly patch.
