Ovarian torsion and bleeding: what should you know?

Ovarian torsion is a twist of the ovary and its supporting tissues. The typical concern is impaired blood flow, producing sudden or intermittent pain, often on one side, with nausea or vomiting. Light spotting can occur for several reasons, including hormonal changes or another gynaecological problem, but bleeding alone cannot confirm or exclude torsion.
