Ovarian cancer mets: what the term means

Mets is a shortened form of metastases. Ovarian cancer can extend within the pelvis and abdomen, or travel to more distant sites. The location, number of areas, size of deposits, symptoms, and tumour biology all affect the treatment plan. Tests may include scans, blood work, and occasionally a biopsy. A new symptom does not by itself prove that cancer has spread: constipation, pain, swelling, and breathlessness can have several causes and need proper assessment.
