What should you know about otoscope and ophthalmoscope set?

An otoscope uses a speculum and light to view the ear canal and eardrum. An ophthalmoscope provides light and magnification for viewing through the pupil and inspecting visible areas inside the eye. A set may include different lenses, specula, handles, and a case, depending on the model. These parts support observation; they do not replace a full eye examination, hearing assessment, or other tests when symptoms extend beyond what can be seen.

During a consultation, remain still and tell the clinician if the ear or eye feels painful. A trained professional selects the appropriate head and attachment, checks the light, and avoids unnecessary pressure. Disposable parts should be changed between patients, while reusable components require proper cleaning.
