Short answer

During pregnancy, oral rehydration salts may replace water and electrolytes lost through vomiting or diarrhoea when mixed and used as directed.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

The main point

During pregnancy, oral rehydration salts may replace water and electrolytes lost through vomiting or diarrhoea when mixed and used as directed. They can support hydration, but they do not treat the reason for vomiting or diarrhoea and should not delay assessment when symptoms are severe.

Why hydration matters in pregnancy

Fluid loss can cause thirst, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, dark urine, or reduced urination. Pregnancy-related nausea can make drinking difficult, while diarrhoea may remove both water and salts. A midwife, obstetric clinician, or doctor can help decide whether home sipping is suitable, especially if you have kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or a fluid restriction.

Use a regulated sachet and its stated water volume. Extra powder, salt, or sugar can change the balance of the drink.

How to approach use

Wash your hands, dissolve the full sachet in clean water exactly as the label says, and take small frequent sips. If nausea or vomiting interrupts drinking, pause briefly and restart slowly. Keep eating small, tolerable foods if you can, and follow pregnancy medicines advice from your care team.

Do not mix the solution with milk, juice, or fizzy drinks. Keep it covered and store or discard it according to the product directions. Tell your maternity team about ongoing fluid loss.

When to contact maternity care

Seek urgent help for fainting, confusion, severe weakness, inability to keep fluids down, very little urine, blood in vomit or stool, severe abdominal pain, or breathing difficulty. During pregnancy, contact your maternity service promptly if vomiting or diarrhoea continues, you feel markedly dehydrated, or you have concerns about reduced fetal movement.

Questions worth asking

Ask whether the product is appropriate with your pregnancy and medicines, how to monitor hydration, and which symptoms require maternity assessment rather than continued home care.
