What should you know about oracort triamcinolone acetonide?

Oracort adheres to the mouth lining and releases triamcinolone acetonide at the treated spot. This reduces local inflammatory activity, which may ease soreness, redness and swelling when the lesion is steroid-responsive. It is not a general mouthwash and should not be used to cover up an undiagnosed sore. A clinician or dentist may need to distinguish irritation from infection, trauma, allergy or another cause before treatment.

Follow the prescribed amount and schedule. Wash your hands, gently dry the area if possible, and press the paste onto the lesion without vigorous rubbing. Keep the tube clean and do not share it. Avoid adding other mouth medicines unless the prescriber or pharmacist confirms they can be combined. Mention immune conditions, diabetes, pregnancy, allergies and other medicines. If the lesion is not improving within the advised period, arrange a review instead of extending treatment yourself.

Get urgent help for swelling of the lips, tongue or face with breathing difficulty, or for a severe allergic reaction. Seek prompt dental or medical review when pain escalates, swallowing becomes difficult, fever develops, or the sore spreads or produces discharge. New white patches, intense burning or repeated lesions may indicate irritation, fungal overgrowth or a different problem.

Ask whether the lesion has been examined, how long Oracort should be used, whether food or drink should be limited after application, and what change would require a follow-up.
