What should you know about one hand swollen pregnancy?

Pregnancy can change fluid balance, but swelling confined to one hand may also come from a tight ring, sleeping position, repetitive use, tendon irritation, or an injury. Rheumatoid Arthritis commonly presents with swollen, stiff joints and can affect the hands. A fall or direct impact can cause a wrist injury such as a Distal Radius Fracture. Note whether the hand is warm, red, itchy, numb, or weak, and whether the swelling improves after moving and elevating it.

Remove rings before swelling increases, keep the hand elevated when comfortable, and move the fingers gently without forcing painful ranges. Avoid prolonged pressure on the wrist and take breaks from repetitive gripping. Use only medicines or topical products that your maternity clinician has said are suitable in pregnancy. Contact your maternity team or clinician if the swelling persists, recurs, or affects function.

Seek urgent medical advice for sudden or rapidly increasing swelling, severe headache, vision changes, chest discomfort, breathlessness, marked facial swelling, or feeling acutely unwell.
