Metastatic prostate cancer has moved beyond the prostate, often to lymph nodes or bones. The word oligo indicates a limited pattern of visible spread; the exact definition and significance depend on scan findings, previous treatment, tumour biology and overall health.

Some people have urinary symptoms such as difficulty passing urine, while others have no symptoms from the prostate or metastases. Bone involvement can cause pain or weaken a bone, so new or persistent symptoms should be assessed.

A multidisciplinary team reviews prostate-specific tests, imaging and biopsy information. Treatment can include hormone-based systemic therapy, radiotherapy to the prostate or metastatic sites, surgery in selected situations, and bone-strengthening therapy when bone health is at risk.
