What should you know about OGTT glucose drink?

A laboratory cannot judge glucose handling from a single casual reading alone. The drink creates a consistent starting point, then timed blood samples show your body's response. The solution is usually sweet and may be difficult to finish if you are nauseated. A staff member will tell you how quickly to drink it and whether you may sip water while waiting.

Check fasting instructions before you arrive and mention pregnancy sickness, diabetes medicines, allergies or previous difficulty with the test. Bring a quiet activity for the waiting period and a snack for afterward if your clinic allows one. Stay seated unless staff say gentle movement is acceptable. Do not eat, smoke or drink anything not approved by the testing team.

Report nausea, sweating, shakiness, dizziness or feeling faint as soon as they begin. Vomiting can mean the planned measurements no longer represent the intended test, so staff may stop and rearrange it. Get urgent maternity help for fainting, severe weakness, difficulty breathing, heavy bleeding or intense abdominal pain.
