What should you know about oedema in pregnancy treatment?

Short answer
Oedema in pregnancy is often managed with comfort measures and monitoring, but sudden swelling of the face or hands, headache, or vision changes needs prompt assessment for pre-eclampsia.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why swelling happens
Pregnancy changes fluid balance and circulation, so fluid can collect around the ankles, feet, and fingers, especially later in the day or after standing. Mild swelling that develops gradually and improves with rest is often manageable, but swelling can also accompany high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia. The pattern, speed of change, blood pressure, urine findings, and other symptoms guide assessment.
Comfort and monitoring
Rest with your feet raised, avoid standing for long periods, wear comfortable supportive footwear, and keep gently active if your maternity team agrees. Lying on your side may ease pressure on major blood vessels. Do not take water tablets, herbal products, or restrict fluids without clinical advice. Attend antenatal checks so blood pressure and urine can be reviewed.
Warning signs
Contact your maternity unit promptly for sudden swelling of the face or hands, a severe headache, blurred vision or flashing lights, pain under the ribs, vomiting, breathlessness, or feeling suddenly unwell. Emergency assessment is needed for severe breathlessness, chest pain, collapse, or a seizure.
Questions for your doctor
Ask whether your swelling pattern is expected, how to check your blood pressure, which activities are suitable, and which symptoms should make you call the maternity unit immediately.
