Nuvadermis silicone scar sheets: what to know

A silicone sheet sits over the scar and provides a flexible, protective layer. It is generally considered for a closed, healed wound, not an open area, fresh scab, or infected skin. The aim is to support a calmer, smoother scar as it matures; results vary with scar type, age, location, and skin response.

Raised or thick scars may benefit from silicone care, while a deeply tethered, painful, or function-limiting scar may need a different plan. Silicone does not replace wound care or assessment of an abnormal lesion.

Follow the product instructions and place the sheet on clean, dry, intact skin. Keep the area clean, check the skin regularly, and stop if you develop significant irritation, blistering, or a rash. Remove it gently rather than pulling at the scar. Do not apply it over drainage, broken skin, or signs of infection unless a clinician specifically directs you.

Arrange a review if the scar becomes increasingly painful, warm, swollen, wet, or rapidly enlarges. Ask for dermatology or surgical advice when a raised scar restricts movement, repeatedly breaks down, or remains troublesome despite careful use. Scar revision surgery is one possible discussion for selected scars, but suitability depends on examination.
