What should you know about non stop spotting after period?

A small amount of blood after a period can reflect the last part of menstrual flow, but ongoing spotting is outside your usual pattern. Hormonal contraception, missed pills, ovulation, cervical irritation, and changes around menopause can contribute. Chlamydia may cause bleeding with discharge or pelvic discomfort. Cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer can present with abnormal bleeding, while endometrial polyps, uterine fibroids, and womb cancer can cause bleeding from the uterus. The symptom cannot identify which cause is present.

A clinician may ask about cycle timing, pregnancy possibility, contraception, medicines, sex, pain, discharge, and menopause. Depending on the answers, assessment may include an examination, pregnancy or infection testing, cervical screening, ultrasound, or a check of the womb lining.

Keep a simple record of when spotting starts after each period, how long it lasts, its colour and amount, and whether it follows sex. Arrange an appointment if it continues, recurs, or is new for you. Mention any hormonal contraception, intrauterine device, blood-thinning medicine, or recent procedure.

Do not self-treat with leftover antibiotics or stop prescribed contraception without advice. If a structural problem or cervical finding is identified, the clinician will explain options matched to the diagnosis. A radical hysterectomy is a major operation for selected cancer situations, not a general treatment for spotting.

Get urgent help if spotting becomes heavy, you feel faint, develop severe pelvic pain, or could be pregnant. Seek prompt review for fever, unpleasant discharge, worsening pain, or bleeding after sex. Any bleeding after menopause should be medically assessed, even when it looks like light spotting.
