What should you know about no fever but rash?

Notice where the rash began, whether it is itchy, painful, raised, blistered, scaly or spreading, and whether new products, medicines, foods or plants came before it. Lack of fever does not identify one diagnosis. Some infections, including Chickenpox, can begin with skin changes, while Cellulitis tends to cause a warm, tender area that expands. A rash can also be part of an allergic reaction or contact irritation.

Take a clear photograph in good light and note changes over time. Do not scratch, share towels, or apply strong creams to broken skin without advice.

Wash gently with lukewarm water, pat dry, and use an unperfumed moisturiser if the skin is dry. Pause a newly introduced cosmetic, detergent or jewellery item. Wear loose clothing and use a cool compress for itch. A pharmacist or clinician can advise whether an antihistamine or topical treatment is suitable for you.

Arrange review if the rash lasts, spreads, recurs, or affects a child, pregnancy, or someone with reduced immunity. Mention recent travel, sick contacts and medicines.

Seek urgent help if the rash comes with facial or tongue swelling, trouble breathing, faintness, confusion, severe pain, blistering, skin peeling, purple spots that do not fade when pressed, or involvement of the eyes or mouth. Rapidly spreading redness with warmth and tenderness also needs prompt assessment.
