Nexium contains esomeprazole, which reduces acid released by the stomach. The medicine can reduce acid exposure, but it cannot establish which condition is responsible.

Try smaller meals, avoid lying down soon after eating, and identify foods or drinks that repeatedly trigger symptoms. Keep track of frequency, night waking, and any difficulty swallowing.

Call emergency services for chest pain or pressure with breathlessness, faintness, cold sweating, or pain moving to the arm, back, neck, or jaw. Seek prompt review for black stools, vomiting blood, repeated vomiting, unexplained weight loss, or food sticking. Frequent heartburn, symptoms that continue despite treatment, or new symptoms in someone with significant medical conditions should also be assessed.
