A hand can tingle after you sleep on an arm or keep your wrist bent; it often settles when pressure is removed. Repeated symptoms may relate to a trapped nerve in the wrist or neck. Conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, Vitamin B12 Deficiency, Hypothyroidism, or Peripheral Neuropathy can also affect sensation. Anxiety or a panic episode may cause tingling, particularly with fast breathing, but do not assume anxiety is the cause without considering other features.

Note when the sensation starts, how long it lasts, which fingers are affected, and whether grip or movement changes. Loosen anything tight around the wrist, vary your position, and avoid leaning on the elbow for long periods. Arrange a GP assessment if it keeps returning, lasts beyond a brief positional episode, or interferes with daily tasks. An examination can guide whether blood tests or nerve assessment are useful.

Call emergency services immediately for sudden tingling with facial drooping, arm weakness, trouble speaking, confusion, severe dizziness, or a new severe headache. These can be signs of Stroke. Sudden symptoms that disappear still warrant urgent assessment because a Transient Ischaemic Attack can be brief.

Ask whether the pattern fits a wrist, neck, or general nerve problem; whether your medicines, glucose, thyroid function, or vitamin B12 need review; and which changes should prompt urgent help.
