What should you know about nausea-reducing medicines?

Anti-sickness medicines act on signals involved in nausea and vomiting. Some are used for travel-related symptoms, while others are prescribed for particular illnesses or after certain treatments. Possible effects include sleepiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, or dizziness. Treating the trigger matters too: nausea with diarrhoea may need fluid replacement, while burning discomfort may fit Acid Reflux or Gastritis and needs a different approach.

Describe when nausea began, what brings it on, and whether you have pain, fever, diarrhoea, or vomiting. Show the pharmacist your complete medicine and supplement list. Avoid driving if you feel drowsy or dizzy.

Seek urgent help for severe pain, a swollen abdomen, blood in vomit, fainting, confusion, chest pain, or breathing difficulty. Reduced urination and marked weakness can signal dehydration.
