Natural Ways to Cure Cradle Cap: What to Know

Short answer
Cradle cap often improves with gentle scalp care, but it should not be scraped; persistent or inflamed areas may need advice about emollient or antifungal treatment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What cradle cap looks like
Cradle cap, also called infantile seborrheic dermatitis, causes greasy or dry scales on a baby's scalp. The skin may look yellowish, white, or mildly red. It is common in infancy and is not caused by poor washing or something a parent did wrong.
The scales may loosen gradually as the scalp's oil and skin-cell turnover settle. Pulling them off can damage delicate skin, create small breaks, and encourage infection. Avoid essential oils, adult dandruff products, and fragranced mixtures unless a clinician specifically recommends them.
Gentle home care
Use a mild baby shampoo and wash the scalp gently. If scales are thick, a clinician may suggest a suitable emollient to soften them before washing. Once softened, lift only loose flakes with a soft brush; stop if the skin becomes sore or bleeds.
Do not scratch, pick, or leave oily products on the scalp for long periods without guidance. If the scalp is very inflamed or the rash extends beyond it, a clinician may consider topical antifungal treatment after checking the infant.
When to seek care
Contact a healthcare professional if the scalp is swollen, warm, oozing, crusted, strongly inflamed, or causing marked discomfort. Seek advice if hair loss occurs in patches, the rash spreads to the face or body, or gentle care does not improve it.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which emollient is appropriate, how long to leave it on, whether an antifungal is needed, and which signs would mean the scalp needs an earlier review.
